Githurai Central Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church’s young adults have left their loyal audience in disappointment after postponing their much-anticipated music event and album launch, “Tutaimbaje FT Ananiah (The GC Affair),” under unclear circumstances. The sudden decision has sparked speculation among members, with questions emerging about whether internal church bureaucracy or a lack of support from leadership may have played a role.
The event, which was set to bring together Adventist music lovers and young creatives from across the city, promised to be a memorable gathering aimed at advancing the gospel through contemporary music. The group, known for their fresh and relatable music style, had generated significant excitement with their collaboration featuring various singing groups from Nairobi including: The Heavenly Echoes Ministers, Wasafiri Family Melodies, Lighthouse Ministers, Kenhut AY Choir, Mathare North AY Choir, Githurai Central Church Choir & Githurai Central Ambassadors Choir.
However, in a sudden twist, the organizing team announced that the event would not be happening as scheduled, citing no concrete reasons for the postponement. The announcement has left supporters, especially the youth, feeling disappointed and frustrated.
What Went Wrong?
Some believe that church bureaucracy, often a barrier for youth-led initiatives, could be at the heart of the issue. A member of the group, who requested anonymity, hinted at frustrations over a perceived lack of support from key decision-makers within the church.
“We were really excited about this project and had put in a lot of work to make it a success. But we faced some unexpected challenges. It’s disheartening because this was an opportunity to reach more people with the gospel in a way that resonates with today’s generation,” the source shared.
The Audience Reacts
The news of the postponement has been met with disappointment from the church’s young adults and the wider Adventist community, many of whom were eager to support the initiative.
Social media platforms have been flooded with messages of frustration and encouragement for the young creatives behind the project.
One person took to tiktok, saying:
“why why may the Lord see you through this…mwovu ibilisi asipate nafasi”
Mc Nyakwar Nyarbritish who was supposed to Emcee the event commented:
“I love you guys and deeply praying for you. Don’t drop it. Hold on and let God fight for you as you take a flight. Anytime, the Impeccable is just a call away”
A Call for Transparency
Supporters are now demanding transparency from the church leadership regarding the reasons for the postponement. Many feel that the young adults deserve an explanation, given the effort they had put into the event’s preparation.
Church leaders have so far remained tight-lipped, with no official statement issued regarding the matter. However, sources indicate that talks are ongoing to resolve the situation and possibly reschedule the event.
A Test of Faith and Patience
While the postponement has undoubtedly tested the faith and patience of the young people, many remain hopeful that the event will eventually take place. Supporters have urged the organizing team not to give up and to continue pushing for innovative ways to advance the gospel.
“This is not the end. God’s work will always prevail. Let’s keep pushing forward, trusting that everything will happen in His time,” said one of the youth members.
As the church community waits for clarity, one thing is certain — the “Tutaimbaje FT Ananiah” launch has sparked a critical conversation about the role of youth in the church and the importance of embracing contemporary approaches to ministry.
Will the leaders of Githurai Central SDA Church heed the call and support their young members in this groundbreaking gospel initiative? Only time will tell.
In the meantime, the youth remain hopeful, standing by their motto: “Tutaimbaje — We will sing!”
